St Thomas Aquinas Teaching Schools

We are excited to announce that positions for our 2024 Cadet cohort have now been filled!

We look forward to receiving further expressions of interest from 1 May 2024.

Catholic Education Tasmania has embarked on an innovative journey to provide experienced based high-quality teacher education right here in Tasmania.

The St Thomas Aquinas Teaching Schools hosts a Teacher Cadet program which delivers an integrated, hands on development approach to Teacher Education in Tasmania.

STATSI_0011

The Program has a three-way structure encompassing:

  • An online University Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching degree
  • Weekly Intensive Teacher Development Sessions
  • Weekly School Placements as a paid Cadet Teacher working alongside a qualified Mentor Teacher.

The program is aimed at Tasmanian school leavers, young adults, and mature aged students who seek a vocation in Catholic education after their degree.

The Degrees that are accepted as part of this program include a Bachelor of Education (Primary), a Bachelor of Education (Secondary): four years full-time, and a Master of Teaching (Primary) and Master of Teaching (Secondary): two years full-time.

This mode of teacher development flips the conventional model of teacher training, by putting you in the classroom from day one of your degree in a paid partnership with Catholic Education Tasmania

At the end of your Cadetship, you will have had the opportunity to acquire up to 350 days of school-based experience, complete your degree, and attain your A, B and C Catholic Accreditation requirements for teaching Religious education in Catholic Schools.

Once we receive your expression of interest, if you meet the initial candidate requirements, we will send you out an application pack which you need to complete to be considered for interview.

Our aim is to support you through the application process, so please contact us if we can help in any way.

*Placements in the program are by competitive entry via interview panel and written application. Any offer will be dependent on your acceptance into an Online Australian University Bachelor of Education or Master of Teaching Course, your eligibility for a Working With Vulnerable Peoples Card, and a desire to work in Catholic Education schools upon completion of your degree.
