Religious Education

Our Catholic schools—along with families and parish communities—share in the evangelising mission of the Catholic Church to enable our students to come to know, worship and love the truth of God’s self-revelation in the person of Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son.

Religious Education lies at the heart of a Catholic school’s curriculum and is therefore a significant aspect of the school's explicit learning and teaching program. Similar to the other learning areas, Religious Education is designed sequentially and is responsive to the learning needs of students. Through the Religious Education program students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary for discernment and decision-making, and for acting justly.

Good News for Living (GNFL) is the curriculum used to teach Religious Education in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Hobart. GNFL is expressed in the faith of the Church and recognises the knowledge of Christian revelation through the sources of Scripture and Tradition.

Religious Education Standards for Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Hobart

Catholic Education Tasmania’s Religious Education Standards have been developed to assist in governing all system and school-level planning across the Archdiocese of Hobart. These standards apply to all individuals involved in CET activities including office staff, Catholic Schools principals and staff, contractors, volunteers, religious personnel and students.

These standards include direction for the provision of Religious Education, its teaching and leadership, assessment, and reporting. Standards seek to enable schools across the Diocese to deliver Religious Education upon the catechetical foundations of knowledge, conversion and response.¹

The Good News for Living Digital Religious Education Hub

The Good News for Living (GNFL) Digital Religious Education Hub (RE Hub) is a web-based tool that supports the learning and teaching of GNFL from Foundation to Year 8. It presents the curriculum, provides resources for the ongoing formation of teachers, as well as guidance and resources for the learning and teaching of GNFL.

Through the RE Hub teachers can also access the current version of the Australian Curriculum and the print and digital resources provided through the Fr John Wall Community Library. Teachers can also access the digital version of To Know, Worship and Love - KWL Primary that accompanies the Good News for Living curriculum.

Years 9 - 10

For Religious Education in Year 9 - 10, the current Catholic Curriculum website will continue to be the point of reference for GNFL (Years 9 -10). The work of developing the Year 9 - 10 components of the RE Hub will continue in 2023.

Catholic Values Education

MAKE JESUS REAL

Make Jesus Real (MJR) complements the learning and teaching of Good News for Living. It supports a student-focused, Christ-centred approach to living the Good News as a Catholic school community.

Relationships and Sexuality Education

Growing Towards Wholeness provides guidance to our parents and families, Catholic school educators, and parishes in the Archdiocese of Hobart for the teaching of Relationships and Sexuality Education. It offers a mandate to our Catholic schools to act in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, drawing on contemporary information and teaching practices to assist parents as they carry out their responsibilities to bring their children to a true and full understanding of human sexuality.
