Fr John Wall Community Library

The Fr John Wall Community Library currently resides at the Fr John Wall Centre within the Southern Regional Office. The collection of materials consists of over 26,000 catalogued resources, including print, digital, kits, sheet music, and realia that supports the faith and mission of Catholic Education Tasmania, as well as Catholic parishes, communities and theologians around the state.

The collection is comprised of the Fr John Wall bequest, resources from the previous Tasmanian Pastoral Resource Centre and St John Fisher College Library. There are also books from Archbishop Guilford Young, Archbishop Eric D’Arcy and others bequeathed/donated by a number of Priests of the Archdiocese. Fr John Wall bequeathed a magnificent collection of books and artefacts of great historical and literary value, including a 1477 Latin Vulgate Bible. These have been viewed by a diverse range of people including students and the previous Australian Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Lazzarotto.

The Library continues to serve the needs of people working and studying in schools and parishes around Tasmania.  New resources are purchased regularly to ensure the collection supports Good News for Living, the Religious Education curriculum and parish catechetical programs, and aligns with the objectives of the Archbishop’s Charter for Catholic Schools. The library is currently working on expanding the provision of digital resources alongside its traditional service.

Library membership is free and open to all members of Catholic Education Tasmania, the Archdiocese and other related Catholic communities, groups, and individuals within the state.
