Teach in a Catholic school

The teaching opportunities we are currently recruiting for are available statewide and range including relief, ongoing part-and full-time opportunities, and limited tenure/parental leave opportunities. These employment opportunities are situated in schools providing primary, secondary, and senior secondary education for students ranging from Kindergarten to Year 12, creating an ideal environment for your professional growth.

These include: 

• Kindergarten/Early Years (K-2)
• Classroom (3-4)
• Classroom (5-6)
• Specialist Primary
• Specialist (Maths/Science)
• Secondary (7-10)
• Senior Secondary (11-12)

To be considered for teaching positions within CET, there are a few requirements we seek in potential candidates. Candidates should:

• Be a qualified and registered Teacher in Tasmania, or be able to obtain registration prior to the commencement of the position.
• Successful attainment of Accreditation C: Accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic School; or the willingness to work towards the successful attainment thereof.
• Have a valid Registration to Work with Vulnerable People to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

Do I have to be Catholic to work in a Catholic school?

We welcome employees from a wide variety of faiths and backgrounds for positions within our schools and offices.

Whilst you do not have to be Catholic to work in Catholic education, we do ask that our employees embrace and embody our Catholic beliefs and practices in their day to day work. This commitment is realised through our dedication to serving one another and our school communities, prioritising the well-being of both our staff and students, and fostering meaningful daily interactions with others.

For certain positions however, such as School Principal or Deputy Principal, candidates are required to be Catholic to ensure we can maintain the integrity of our Catholic values within our system of schools.

I’m an early career teacher. What opportunities are available for me?

Our Early Career Teachers program is the foundation program of the suite of leadership development programs offered within Catholic Education Tasmania. 

During their first three years of teaching in CET, early career teachers are provided with support and professional development opportunities both at their school and from the Catholic education system as part of the Early Career Teacher program.

The program provides a formal structure that sits alongside essential in-school induction, orientation, support, and mentoring.

What is Accreditation C?

Catholic Education Tasmania fosters the formation of its employees to grow in confidence in their understanding and commitment to the mission of the Catholic school.

‘Accreditation C’ is for all employees teaching Religious Education in Catholic schools in Tasmania. Religious Education teachers present, explain, and justify the Christian message as it is transmitted by the Catholic Church. They implement the Religious Education program mandated by the Archbishop of Hobart.

Why do I need to have a Registration to Work with Vulnerable People?

Catholic Education Tasmania believes that children and young people have a fundamental right to be respected, nurtured, and cared for, and that every child and young person is entitled to be educated in a safe environment.

All employees within CET are required to hold a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People so that we can protect the vulnerable members of our community.
