A statewide celebration of faith, service, and hope

Catholic Education Week holds a special place in the calendar for Catholic Education Tasmania. It is an annual opportunity to reflect on the mission that unites our schools.

In 2025, our celebrations were made even more meaningful as we marked the final Catholic Education Week of Archbishop Julian Porteous before he retires from service.

Under the theme Pilgrims of Hope, the week brought together students, educators, and communities through a series of events held across the North West, North, and South.

Each region shared in the celebration of Catholic education’s legacy and future through three central moments: a regional Mass, a school visit, and an awards ceremony.

The Masses concelebrated by Archbishop Porteous and local clergy were powerful moments of unity, drawing students and staff from across each region into shared prayer and reflection.

The presence of young people from so many schools spoke to the strength of our collective mission and the deep roots of faith that continue to nourish Catholic education in Tasmania.

During his school visits, Archbishop Porteous was warmly welcomed by students and staff, offering him a firsthand glimpse of the vibrant, nurturing environments where learning and faith walk hand in hand.

These visits served as a joyful reminder of the central role our schools play in forming the next generation academically, spiritually, and personally.

In the evenings, communities gathered to honour those whose contributions have helped shape Catholic education across the state.

This year saw a record number of award recipients—the largest since the awards began. Each ceremony was a rich celebration of service, recognising staff, volunteers, and supporters whose dedication has touched countless lives.

Together, the Masses, school visits, and awards ceremonies formed a statewide tapestry of gratitude and celebration with each region adding its own spirit to a shared story.

As Catholic Education Week drew to a close, we were reminded not only of the achievements of the past but of the hope that carries us forward as pilgrims united in faith, service, and hope.
