The constantly evolving professional landscape, and the ability to make a difference in the lives of students, are just two of many reasons why Rhys Ford loves working in ICT.
Rhys is an ICT Client Services Support Officer for Catholic Education Tasmania (CET), supporting schools in the state’s North through staffing the help desk and attending schools onsite to fix issues.
With recruitment now underway for Support Officer roles within the ICT Client Services team, Rhys has shared his story as a new employee at CET.
“I joined the team in January and I have found them really nice and welcoming, good fun to work with and approachable,” Rhys said.
“I have very much liked having a good group of people to bounce ideas around with, we all need to support one another with certain issues at times.”

ICT is dynamic and ever-changing, which draws many people to this industry.
“The daily problem solving and working interactively with people in schools keeps it interesting. You are thrown a different challenge everyday and they are mostly fun ones,” Rhys said.
“It is a constantly changing and evolving industry, and I particularly love the information security element. Data and network security are top priority, as kids are using the internet on devices everyday.”
After graduating from school Rhys was not sure what he wanted to do for work, and tried a number of different roles both in the Catholic school system and elsewhere before he found his calling.
“I knew that doing IT was where my passions lie, I had always enjoyed it but just needed to step away for a while and see that,” he said.
“The great thing about working in our schools is that every school is different, and you get to learn something new about the place.”
