This Sunday is the 2nd Sunday of Advent and the Gospel reading is Mark 1:1-8.
The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
“See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way;
the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
John the baptiser appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
St Aloysius completes new Senior Secondary Campus and extends to Year 12
There is a truly special joy in getting to experience your entire schooling journey at the one beloved school. At St Aloysius Catholic College students will soon be able to experience this with the opening of their new Senior Secondary Campus. The College took receipt of the keys from Fairbrother to their brand new Campus on Friday 8 December.
Year 10 student and College Captain, Bella Oakley, is thrilled that she and all other students can now stay with the same College the whole way through their schooling career. “The new campus is very inviting and welcoming in the layout, and the teachers are based in an accessible area where students have easy access for any questions, concerns or help,” says Bella.
Mentor Appreciation Week
The St Thomas Aquinas Teaching Schools Institute (STATSI) plays an important role in Catholic Education Tasmania, and it couldn't be achieved without the invaluable support of the exceptional Mentor Teachers. These Mentors assist Cadets in their development both inside and outside the classroom, guiding them through the intricacies of Teaching.
Last week, the Cadets put their hearts into creating Mentor Appreciation Week—a special time dedicated to expressing gratitude and admiration for their Mentors' unwavering dedication and guidance.
From heartfelt thank-you messages to thoughtful gifts, the week was all about celebrating the incredible impact our Mentors have made on our Cadets' lives. It's a testament to their passion, wisdom, and commitment to nurturing the next generation of educators.
So, thank you to the STATSI Mentors who shape futures and ignite the spark of knowledge within our Cadets!
Retreat allows for connection with God
Catholic Education Tasmania recently held Early Career Teaching Retreats in the North and South of the state, creating important space and time in the busy schedules of new teachers to learn and reflect.
These retreats provided a unique space for our educators to deepen their connection with God, enhancing their confidence to share this profound experience with students.
Leah Wheeler, who has been teaching Grade 1-2 students for the past three years at St Thomas More's Catholic School in Newstead said, “It is a time in my life where I am personally questioning everything that is happening around me, so it is nice to just be still for a while and take it all in.”
