This Sunday is the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time and the Gospel reading is Matthew 25:1-13.
Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise replied, ‘No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’ Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.
Praying for a Lasting Peace
The Australian Catholic Bishops, gathered in Sydney this week, joining with the Australian Catholic community in expressing their grief and anguish over the suffering of people in the Holy Land. These are not simply news stories or television dramas: they are the stories of real people. All are children of God.
Remembering the long history that has led to the current violence in the Middle East is the first step to finding a way beyond the violence to a just end of the conflict. Peace can come only from justice.
The Bishops call people of faith to pray with them for a lasting peace and the triumph of human dignity. They encourage acts of charity and generosity to provide for the material needs of people who are isolated and facing the greatest hardship.
Insightful Teaching: A Pedagogical Revolution Transforming Catholic Education in Tasmania
As Catholic Education Tasmania (CET) moves into Term 4 and towards the end of the 2023 school year, Insight continues to influence educators and create positive learning outcomes for Catholic students across Tasmania. This pedagogical revolution is not just about teaching; it is about teaching effectively.
Michael Roberts the Managing Director of Mastery Schools Australia and Co-Founder of COGlearn says, “We’ve seen incredible enthusiasm across all of the Insight schools. Some of the teachers are already starting to see some of the benefits with their students. That normally takes a while, but that’s starting to happen which fuels their interest and motivates them even more.”
Free STEM Equipment and Support for 12 Secondary Schools
Tasmanian technology education company Bitlink, in partnership with the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing & Energy Council (TMEC), are seeking expressions of interest for participants in their 2024 advanced manufacturing support package.
12 Tasmanian secondary schools will be selected to receive a three hour workshop run by the Bitlink team, which simultaneously engages students and staff in learning skills relating to 'Design & Digital Technologies' curriculum and the advanced manufacturing sector. In addition to receiving this workshop, each school will also receive a Bitlink IoT (Internet of Things) Classroom Kit, valued at $3,000.
The Bitlink IoT Classroom Kit enables classes of up to 30 students to learn coding and electronics in a fun and engaging way. Each classroom kit includes 15 micro bits, various sensors and outputs, and is supported with online lessons, videos, slide decks and other teaching resources. This opportunity is funded by the Department of State Growth and is available to selected schools free of charge.
All expressions of interest will be reviewed by a selection committee including representation from TMEC, Bitlink and DECYP, and the 12 chosen schools will have their workshops and kits delivered in the 2024 calendar year. The project team will be accepting responses until 5pm on Friday, 24 November. Successful schools will be notified before the end of the year.

Having conversations with children and young people
The National Office for Child Safety has provided a series of resources on how to start sensitive conversations with children and young people as part of its ‘One Talk at a Time’ campaign.
The national initiative is part of the Australian Government’s recently launched child protection and safety campaign and encourages adults in the lives of children to talk with them about feeling safe and where to seek support and help.
The campaign aims to prevent child sexual abuse by encouraging adults to learn about the issue and have preventative conversations with children, young people and other adults.
The initiative is a key measure under the National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse 2021-2030 and fulfils a recommendation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
