This Sunday is 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time and the Gospel reading is Matthew 14:22-33.
Jesus Walks on the Water
Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”
Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Catholic Education Week Celebrations
This Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we have been hosting our regional awards ceremonies to honour the staff and CET community members who give so much to support our students and schools across the state. If you're reading this then that includes you!
Our CET community affords us the privilege of genuine relationships and meaningful experiences. It's likely that you know someone receiving an award who is part of your everyday community. As we honour the people receiving awards, we are reminded of the small moments that may often go unnoticed and the importance of shining light on our individual and collective achievements and the achievements.
In the spirit of sharing in celebration, we have been profiling some of this year’s Catholic Education Commission Tasmania Recognition Award and 25 Years of Service Award recipients, which you may like to read about on our website.
We thank you for all of the work you do, often tirelessly in the background, to make Catholic Education Tasmania a place we can all be proud of. Take time this Catholic Education Week to recognise the impact you have on this community and thank the people who inspire you.
Knights of the Southern Cross - Prayer Crusade for Vocations
The Australian Catholic Church’s Vocations Awareness Week is a week in which the Church asks us all to reflect on how best we can respond to God’s call to us to love and serve. Tasmanian Catholics are once again invited to join the Knights of the Southern Cross and Catholics in the Australian Defence Force in the 17th Prayer Crusade to pray for an increase in the number of Catholics willing to serve the Church in the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life.
Those participating in Tasmania are asked to say the special prayer on each day of the week between Sunday 6 to Sunday 13 August.
THE PRAYER:
“Heavenly Father, you know the faith, courage, and generosity of your people throughout Australia including the men and women serving at home and overseas with the Australian Defence Force. Please provide your people in Australia with sufficient Priests, Deacons and Religious to meet their needs and be with them always as they endeavour to meet the challenges of their daily lives. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son. Amen.”

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Next Friday 18 August is the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative for schools. This day encourages whole-school communities to work together to prevent and address bullying.
This year's theme, Growing Connections, supports research findings that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours in students.
