This Sunday is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time and the Gospel reading is Matthew 10:26-33
Whom to Fear
So have no fear of them; for nothing is covered up that will not be uncovered, and nothing secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim from the housetops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. And even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before others, I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven; but whoever denies me before others, I also will deny before my Father in heaven.
Sacred Heart celebrates 150 Years in style
Staff and students from Sacred Heart Catholic School Launceston celebrated their 150 Years last Friday. The school community were invited to dress in olden-day clothing while playing old-school games, as they tried to replicate what it would have been like when the school opened in 1873. Didn't they do a great job!
World Refugee Week
This week TCEO staff in the south came together for World Refugee Day to watch a screening of 'Scattered People', a story told through the eyes of two Iranian musicians, which explores Australians' attitudes towards people seeking asylum.
After the screening, members of staff gathered to reflect and share with one another about the importance of this day. World Refugee Day serves as a powerful reminder that we all share a common humanity. What a lovely photo of our Programs team who organised the event!
As we honour the courage and resilience of refugees around the world, let us recognise the importance of embracing compassion, empathy, and understanding for those seeking refuge around the world.

RACT Road Safety education programs
Teaching children road safety is essential in keeping them safe on and near roads. RACT has a team of educators who can visit your school and present their range of free education programs:
- Yippee! – RACT's story-time program introduces basic road safety concepts to children up to the age of six. The program encourages children to think about safe ways to travel in the car and when crossing the road.
- RoadSafe – a fun, interactive online resource designed for Grade 3 and 4 students. It has four learning modules such as how to be a safe passenger and pedestrian, bike safety and what the road signs are telling us. During the one hour session RACT work through one of their four modules using short educational videos and activities with a quiz at the end. Students and teachers will continue having access to the resource after RACT leave.
- Ready for the Road – for Grade 10, 11 and 12 students who have or are about to start their driving journey. During this session RACT covers topics such as: the process of getting your license, safe driving tips, vehicle safety, insurance, registration, and more. This session can also be followed by their practical Distracted Driving program.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday
Every year, on the first Sunday in July, Catholics come together to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the gifts of Australia’s First peoples to our Church, our country and our communities.
The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council has developed a resource to assist schools in celebrating the day as well as conducting activities to encourage further learning and exploration. The 2023 resources are titled A new life in Christ and include a number of suggestions that can assist in creating liturgies in a classroom setting.
Importantly, a youth activity has been developed that provides students with the space to explore the upcoming Referendum from a Catholic and moral point of view.
