This Sunday is the Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time and the gospel reading is Luke 12:49-53.
Jesus the Cause of Division
“I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! From now on five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided: father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Sunday 28 August is Social Justice Sunday. In their Social Justice Statement for 2022-23, Respect: Confronting Violence and Abuse, the Australian Bishops add their voice to global campaigns challenging the destructive attitudes and behaviours that severely impact many vulnerable members of our families, churches, and society. They invite us to consider the roots of violence and abuse, how they can be addressed and what can be done to heal and transform individuals and cultures caught in such situations. We are urged to take responsibility ourselves to foster justice and peace in our world.
Start Smart Tasmania
It is estimated that between 5-20% of students have dyslexia or related literacy learning difficulties. This one-day, hands-on, professional learning workshop unpacks the facts and figures on dyslexia, then examines the most important challenge to teachers of students with dyslexia – providing evidence-based instruction. The workshop will discuss which strategies these learners need, why they work, and guide participants to the resources they need. Finally, the workshop will examine the important adjustments to the curriculum, including assistive technology options, that students require to be successful.
