Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Network Meeting
On Wednesday June 8 educators from across the state attended an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Network Meeting.
Participants were given the opportunity to build their knowledge of Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture. Cecelia Wright, leading multicultural trainer and educator and Ryka Ali an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Performer shared meaningful and authentic ways to embed Torres Strait perspectives across learning areas.
Educators gained a wealth of knowledge about the Torres Strait from Cecelia including the importance of spirituality, community and connection to one’s village. Ryka’s dance performances and explanations of instruments, artefacts and costumes revealed the richness of the Torres Strait Islander Culture. Participants particularly appreciated Ryka’s sense of humour and Cecelia’s generosity with sharing resources.
