200 Years of Catholic education in Australia featuring Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School
As part of our 200 Years of Catholic Education in Australia celebrations we will be sharing some special memories from our 38 Catholic Education Tasmania schools throughout the year. This week we celebrate 125 years of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School!
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School has been serving families in Tasmania’s Meander Valley region for 125 years.
Established in 1895 by the Sisters of Mercy, the School initially welcomed children from infancy through to secondary classes in the spirit of their founder Catherine McAuley.
Recognising the needs of the economically poor, and determined to make a difference women and girls, Catherine McAuley founded the Sisters of Mercy in 1831.
This determination to make a difference and impact the lives of others has been carried through the history of Our Lady of Mercy; first through the work of the Sisters of Mercy and today by the dedicated lay staff who continue to serve the families of Deloraine and the broader Meander Valley region.
The School community acknowledged this commitment in their 125th Anniversary celebrations in September 2020. We congratulate the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School community for 125 wonderful years in Catholic education!
"We must strive to do ordinary things extraordinarily well." Catherine McAuley
